Asetenapa Cocoa — Nature, Fairness & Wealth

From chocolate to mushrooms — new horizons for young people in Ghana

A livelihood initiative involving young people and women looks beyond the cocoa farm for income and skills.

1 March 2025 · Asetenapa Communications

Young people in cocoa communities often face a narrow choice: farm the family land, or leave.

Asetenapa's mushroom livelihood initiative, reported by FAO in March 2025, offers a third option — a short-cycle enterprise that young people and women can run alongside existing farm work, with training and a route to local markets.

For the cooperative it is part of a wider strategy: diversified livelihoods make households and communities more resilient, and give the next generation a reason to build a future in agriculture.

Based on FAO reporting from March 2025. Details to be confirmed by management.
