ELUCID — M’apomuden hia
Tony’s “M’apomuden hia” supports healthcare access for our cocoa farmers and their families, including help with health insurance and essential healthcare services.
Overview
“M’apomuden hia” — Twi for “my health matters” — is a farmer health programme supported by Tony’s Chocolonely and implemented with Elucid, a social enterprise that builds healthcare into cocoa supply chains. Health costs are one of the biggest pressures on smallholder households: an illness or a hospital bill can push a family into debt, take children out of school or keep a farmer off the farm. The programme helps Asetenapa farming families enrol in Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and access essential healthcare services through partner health facilities in their communities, so care is affordable when it is needed.
Objectives
- Help farmers and their families enrol in and renew Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)
- Improve access to essential healthcare services, including care beyond the national package where covered
- Reduce the risk of catastrophic out-of-pocket health spending for cocoa-farming households
- Promote preventive healthcare and health awareness in member communities
What we are doing
- Community sensitisation sessions on health insurance and preventive care
- NHIS registration and renewal support for farming households
- Linking families to partner local health facilities and community health services
- Digital enrolment and tracking of coverage and treatment through Elucid’s platform
